Discover the artistic journey of Tavares Strachan, born in Nassau, Bahamas, in 1979. In 2013, he proudly represented the Bahamas at the 55th Venice Biennale, marking a pivotal moment in his career.
Tavares Strachan’s impact extends beyond national borders, with solo exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia (2009), and the Frye Art Museum, Seattle (2018). His artistic prowess is also evident in outdoor commissions for the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland (2018), and the Barclays Center, New York (2021).
A seasoned participant in international art events, Strachan has left his mark on the 12th Biennale de Lyon (2013), Prospect.3 in New Orleans (2014), Desert X in California (2017), and the 58th Venice Biennale (2019).
Notably, Strachan served as an artist in residence at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, from 2019 to 2020. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the art world, he was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship prize in 2022.
