18 February 2025 • Mark Westall
Reader a new online & physical publication focusing on innovation in long-form writing.
Aria Dean (b. 1993, Los Angeles, California, USA) is an American artist and writer working across video, installation, writing and digital media. Aria Dean’s practice explores race, technology and representation in contemporary culture, examining how Blackness is shaped through digital systems, online imagery and networked media.
Dean’s work frequently combines CGI animation, theoretical writing and conceptual installation to investigate visibility, simulation and the circulation of images on the internet. Her projects often draw on philosophy, social media and art history, positioning technology as both a cultural framework and a site of political tension. Aria Dean’s writing has also contributed to wider discussions around contemporary art, digital culture and post-internet theory.
Aria Dean has exhibited internationally in museums, galleries and biennials, and her interdisciplinary practice places her within a generation of artists engaging critically with technology, identity and image production in contemporary art.
