Whitechapel Gallery to celebrate the it’s groundbreaking history, while setting out a bold new direction for the future.
Veronica Ryan (b. 1956, Plymouth, Montserrat) creates sculptural works that hold memory within material. Using bronze, clay, textiles, and found objects, she builds quiet constellations of form—containers, seeds, shells—that speak of migration, nurture, and belonging. Her installations balance fragility and resilience, layering personal and collective histories through touch and repetition. Rooted in care and reflection, Ryan’s practice transforms everyday matter into tender meditations on place, identity, and the passage of time.
