Salman Toor (b. 1983, Lahore, Pakistan; lives and works in New York, USA) creates intimate, psychologically charged paintings that explore queer desire, diaspora and the textures of everyday life. Working with a distinctive palette of greens and muted tones, he stages scenes drawn from personal experience—bedrooms, parties, parks, city streets—where figures linger in states of tenderness, anxiety and quiet observation.

Toor’s paintings balance narrative and atmosphere. Bodies lean into one another, glance sideways, or retreat into their own interior worlds, creating moments that feel private yet socially coded. His work draws on art history, South Asian miniature painting and Western figurative traditions, filtering these references through contemporary experiences of migration, surveillance and belonging.
