Today at 2.30pm attend a talk on the life & work of the phenomenal American self-taught artist, Judith Scott, discussed by her twin sister, Joyce Scott & director of the Creative Growth Art Center, Tom di Maria. Born deaf & with Down Syndrome, Judith Scott developed what has been described as one of the most important bodies of work of the 20th Century by curator Matthew Higgs of White Columns, as much a private language as it is art & one which spoke for the artist when words could not.
Judith Scott’s work is celebrated at museums & in collections around the world. It is only thanks to Creative Growth that we are able to present Exhibition #4.1, the largest & first ever British retrospective of her work, to be featured on the BBC2 Culture Show at7:00pm on Thursday 13th October. This event is a first, a last, an everything.
