Light Drawings at Somerset House to celebrate 40th Anniversary of London Original Print Fair

London Original Print Fair (LOPF), which will celebrate its 40th anniversary from 20th-23rd March at Somerset House.

To mark the anniversary – artist Hugo Dalton, who is known for his stunning light installations created for the V&A, Royal Opera House, Sadlers Wells and more, will present his two of his Light Drawings, as well as a print on mirror, influenced by his relationship with celebrated printmaker, the late Norman Ackroyd.

LOPF is London’s longest running art fair, bringing together over 40 exhibitors to celebrate the art of printmaking in all its forms. This exciting anniversary edition will feature highlights such as a special anniversary poster by Tom Hammick, an exclusive print launch by David Shrigley, new and recent works by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke and works by world renowned artists including from Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Bridget Riley, Tracey Emin, Rashid Johnson and more.

At the entrance of the fair, Dalton will exhibit Light Drawings first seen at Sadler’s Wells, where he collaborated with choreographer Christopher Wheeldon to create an immersive stage set. Each projector contains an acid-etched disc, allowing light to shine through and envelop the space, merging the fluidity of dance with his unique approach to light and form. The discs are editioned in themselves and the etching technique is the same as is used as printmaking.  He will also be presenting an installation in the Nelson Staircase, where a projected drawing of a dancer performing a pirouette brings movement into direct dialogue with the architecture. The interaction of light, space, and audience reinterprets the staircase, blending the dancer’s physicality with the design of the space. Also in the staircase, he will be showing an editioned print on mirror, influenced by his work with Norman and his work with the Royal Ballet.
