Cromwell Place has revealed that Helen Nisbet has been appointed to the newly created role of CEO and Artistic Director. The London-based curator, who is originally from Shetland, will join the organisation in August. Helen joins Cromwell Place from Art Night, the national contemporary art festival for which she is Artistic Director. She will take up this new role after the delivery of Art Night Dundee this summer which takes place on 24th June.
Helen has a national and international reputation for developing career-shifting projects with artists, shaping strategic vision with contemporary art spaces and developing meaningful and strong public and private sector partnerships. Helen’s appointment signals a broadening of ambition for Cromwell Place and a commitment to the national and international art ecology – through public programming, supporting artists and being critically relevant to collectors in London and beyond. This work will be part of a relaunch of the organisation in 2024.

possibilities of the space. Building on the hard work of the team so far, I will be developing a strong
and cohesive programme centring Cromwell Place’s role as a host for togetherness,
experimentation, idea sharing, national and international partnerships and, crucially, supporting
artists and the art ecology to thrive in difficult times.
Helen, who sits on this year’s Turner Prize jury, is currently the Artistic Director of the UK-wide biennial contemporary art festival, Art Night. She is Non-Executive Director of Gaada, the artist-led open access art workshop and resource for Shetland; sits on the board of a-n, The Artists Information Company, that provides support for artists and those who work with them; and is on the Advisory Board for Artquest, which works to help make the art world more equitable for artists. She is also a Visiting Lecturer at the Royal College of Art, Glasgow School of Art and Goldsmiths in London.

Building on its year-round programme of diverse exhibitions across 15 gallery spaces and environment in which artists, galleries, institutions, collectors, dealers, curators and arts professionals can collaborate and flourish together.
