Experience the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion class of 2021

Working through lockdowns, limited studio access, and life behind screens may have limited our ways. It certainly didn’t affect the attitude and the belief that we can only embrace the moment and make use of whatever little we find around us and make it greater. That is what the Class of 2021 just did uncompromisingly within the compromise, enabling us all to move forward together fearlessly. I am very proud of that

Fabio Piras, Course Director MA Fashion

The 2020 MA Fashion Show during London Fashion Week in February was one of the last major events in Central Saint Martins before the lockdown.  Fabio Piras, Course Director of MA Fashion, wanted the digital experience to be as exciting and groundbreaking as the catwalk presentation.  He worked with Matt Jones and Assaf Reeb (a graduate of the course) of Immersive Virtual Apparel to create a unique environment for the show.

You will be welcomed to the virtual Central Saint Martins to experience the collections of 33 graduating students. The immersive showcase will take you to Granary Square where you will be welcomed by the voice of Michèle Lamy.

Entering the building a vast concrete space reveals three large screens. A huge disco ball glitters, an eye peeps through a curtain and the show begins with a film: ‘In Motion, Class of 2021 in Preparation’. From here you will be directed to the Exhibition Gallery of 33 doors each of which have been curated by the students to show their work.

“The general criteria for the assessment of the winners are the commitment to vision and practice and the effectiveness of communicating both clearly. I also felt I could really see the worlds they had created which excited me as an editor whose job it is to essentially travel to these strange planets inside the minds of the designers, metabolise what I saw and translate the vision for my audience back home.”

The judge for this year’s award is renowned stylist, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson whose work is focused on diversifying representation in the high fashion landscape

“Sól Hansdóttir and António Castro have accented characters on both their names, but this is not only what brings them together. The uncompromising commitment to their craft, artistic gesture, and ultimately their vision are the reasons which see them sharing this year’s award. António and Sól are the expressions of this year’s cohort. Therefore, I feel that this accolade of merit also goes in spirit to the rest of the class of 2021.
I sincerely thank Gabriella Karefa-Johnson for accepting the difficult task to choose among so many different students’ perspectives. It was the greatest honour to have her on board.”
