Ralph Steadman’s first selling exhibition of original artworks in 30 years to open in London

Original works by Ralph Steadman will go on public view this autumn in Out of Line, the legendary artist and illustrator’s first selling exhibition of original artworks in three decades.

Presented by TIN MAN ART, the exhibition runs from 2nd–11th October 2026 at 31 St George Street, Mayfair, bringing together 27 original works spanning more than 50 years of Steadman’s career. From his early cartoons for Punch, New Statesman, the Manchester Evening Chronicle and Private Eye to his iconic collaborations with Hunter S. Thompson and his razor-sharp political satires, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see many of these works outside the printed page for the first time in decades.

Working closely with Sadie Williams, Director of the Ralph Steadman Art Collection, TIN MAN ART has assembled a survey that reflects the extraordinary breadth of Steadman’s practice. Highlights include Hunter on Acetate (1995), Hunter as the Dalai Lama (2000), political works such as Vitruvian Tony and The Adoration of the Maggie, and Money Changers on the San Ysidro Boulevard (1984), a response to the US–Mexico border that remains strikingly relevant today.

Although forever associated with Gonzo journalism through his collaborations with Hunter S. Thompson, Out of Line reveals Steadman as a wider chronicler of post-war society, whose fearless observations on politics, conflict and popular culture continue to resonate.

Annunciata, co-founder of TIN MAN ART, said:

“Ralph has been hugely prolific throughout his long career and still draws every day. With Out of Line, we wanted to present a broad survey of his oeuvre, so from an absolutely vast portfolio, working closely with Ralph’s daughter Sadie Williams, Director of the Ralph Steadman Art Collection, we selected 27 pieces.”

She added:

“Through his seven-decade long career, Ralph Steadman has created a visual history of society for everyone alive today, whether they are aware of it or not. Anyone old enough to remember reading 1950s newspaper broadsheets and those who spot the eerie echo of 1970s Gonzo journalism in today’s political sphere, through to 1990s film buffs and young art fair goers who are drawn to his style, affectionately recognising it from the books they loved in childhood – they are all a part of his journey. It is enormously exciting to have these original artworks out in the wild and exhibited together for the first time. They offer a tantalising glimpse of a storied career.”

Sadie Williams, Ralph Steadman’s daughter, said:

“We are excited to partner with TIN MAN ART on this exhibition. It presents a diverse selection of artworks, most of which have only ever been seen once in print. It is a rare opportunity to own some significant Steadman artworks and appreciate his creative development.”
