
Artist Tom Pope will present The Soho Swimming Club Penney Cup Gala on Tuesday 2nd September.
The work is an installation and performance in the rooftop pool of Soho House 180 Strand, London. The work takes the form of a swimming gala with a performance where a series of short swimming races will take place. Visitors can view the gala installation, watch the races or/and participate in the races.
The races are open to anyone who would like to participate. All participants will receive a bespoke medal, with the overall winner being awarded a bespoke trophy.
3pm Gala begins
3:20 – 3:40pm first performance races
5:30pm in conversation between Kate Bryan, Chief Art Director at Soho House and Tom
7:00 – 7:20pm second performance races
7:20pm award ceremony

About the artist
Tom Pope Lives and works in Hasting, works in performance and photography. Play is at the core of his practice; it is both subject matter for his works but also embedded in how he utilises the photographic medium. In 2011 he won the Deutsche Bank Artist Award for the project Time Bound. Projects include One Square Club, at Frieze Art Fair Los Angeles, a performance work and the world’s most exclusive private members club; Art Workout an online exercise video and participatory performance commissioned for Frieze New York online; and Terminating Martin Parr, a live performance where he destroyed 17 Martin Parr photographs. Pope has work in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of Wales as well as various private collections.
