Frieze to launch Frieze House Seoul, a new exhibition initiative opening in September 2025 that will bring leading galleries to the heart of the city for a year-round program of exhibitions and events. Building on the success of No.9 Cork Street in London, Frieze House Seoul aims to serve as a vital cultural platform for global and local art scenes to connect in Asia’s most dynamic cultural capital.
“Frieze House Seoul marks a natural and exciting evolution of our presence in Korea. Seoul has become a focal point for the global art world and this new space will allow us to foster deeper engagement with the city’s vibrant art communities throughout the year. Our aim is to create new opportunities for galleries from all over the world to establish a presence in one of the world’s most dynamic art markets.”
Kristell Chadé, Executive Director of Fairs at Frieze
Located in Yaksu-dong, an increasingly vibrant neighborhood at the intersection of Seoul’s contemporary and historic districts, the house reflects the area’s growing status as a center for creativity and culture. Originally built in 1988, during a pivotal moment in Korea’s modern history, the building retains the character of the period in a newly renovated space by Seoul-based architectural studio Samuso Hyoja, with lead contractor management by Our Labour. The venue will also feature a permanent site-specific installation by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, SANAA.
The space will operate as a flexible venue for short-term gallery residencies, special projects and curated
exhibitions. With a program shaped by Frieze’s international expertise and strong relationships with galleries, artists and institutions, the new venture will offer the opportunity to experience ambitious programming beyond Frieze’s fair calendar.
The launch of Frieze House Seoul will coincide with Frieze Seoul 2025 and feature expanded elements of the fair’s celebrated programming — including performances from Frieze Live, the section of the fair dedicated to performance art, alongside citywide activations — further deepening Frieze’s connection to Seoul’s cultural fabric.
‘Building on the momentum of Frieze Seoul and celebrating Frieze’s creative spirit, Frieze House Seoul will offer a new way to experience international and Korean contemporary art in dialogue. We’re excited to create a space that reflects the energy, experimentation and ambition that define Seoul’s cultural landscape. With Frieze House Seoul, we’re deepening our long-term commitment to the city and its artistic community and look forward to serving as a platform for ongoing creative exchange and inspiration.’
