The New American West: Photography In Conversation brings a fresh perspective to one of America’s most enduring icons. The New American West: Photography In Conversation offers an opportunity to reflect on how the region has shaped—and continues to shape—our collective imagination. The show interrogates the myths, realities, and complexities ofthe West, weaving together the work of iconic artists with cutting-edge voices to create a conversation across generations.
The show was inspired by the collaborative journey of Maryam Eisler and Alexei Riboud, who traversed Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah in March of 2024, and purposefully highlights what sits atthe core of their project; how photographers can experience the same landscapes through vastly dierent perspectives—one narrative and intimate, another reflective and minimal.
Exhibition Highlights
The New American West brings together an extraordinary lineup of photographers whose works collectively redefine the West, including Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Esther Bubley, Mark Citret, Bruce Davidson, Liliane de Cock, Maryam Eisler, Frank Gohlke, Junglin Lee, Jessica Lange, Danny Lyon, Mary Ellen Mark, Ray K Metzker, Joel Meyerowitz, Alexei Riboud, Dennis Stock, Edward Weston, and Wim Wenders. These images challenge traditional tropes ofthe region, weaving together stories ofresilience, identity, and cultural transformation.
A Conversation Across Time and Space
Replacing the myth of vast, uninhabited landscapes with layered and often contradictory narratives,the exhibition invites audiences to experience the West as a rich tapestry of stories and perspectives, sparking questions aboutidentity, history, and freedom.

The exhibition will be showcased at designer Pierre Yovanovitch’s New York gallery. Known for his global portfolio ofinterior architecture projects and furniture designs, Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier New York serves as both a platform for his furniture collections and his U.S. headquarters. Since opening the New York gallery in 2023, Pierre Yovanovitch has placed contemporary art atthe center ofits programming, showcasing works by Francesco Clemente, Claire Tabouret, Camille Henrot, Danielle McKinney, and Julian Schnabel,to name a few. With a regular rotation of new artworks exhibited seasonally, The New American West: Photography In Conversation will be the gallery’s first photography exhibition.
To coincide with the exhibition West West: Twin Perspectives Of The American West a remarkable collaboration between Maryam Eisler and Alexei Riboud that inspired the exhibition will be launched . In March 2024,the photographs embarked on a journey across the American West—Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah—capturing space, place, and people through their distinctlenses. Shooting side by side but never sharing images,they documented the same landscapes in entirely dierent ways, proving that photography is shaped by perspective, notjust optics.

About the artists
Maryam Eisler is a London based celebrated photographer known for her powerful exploration ofthe Sublime Feminine, capturing the intersection of strength, beauty, and mythology. Her work has been exhibited atleading galleries and institutions worldwide, including Alon Zakaim, Tristan Hoare, Harper’s, The Ranch, and Mucciaccia Gallery, as well as major fairs like Photo London, Unseen Amsterdam, and Dallas Art Fair. A published author and editor, she has contributed to Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue Arabia, and recently expanded into film as creative producerfor Tim Yip’s Love Infinity on Mubi.
Alexei Riboud is a French-American photographer whose work explores the shifting landscapes of margins and peripheries,turning overlooked spaces into compelling visual narratives. After a career in graphic design and art direction, he shifted his focus to photography, capturing the evolving dynamics ofinformal settlements, suburban fringes, and the vast American West. From Havana to Tokyo,Johannesburg to Paris, Riboud’s lens transforms counter-spaces into powerful reflections on identity,transition, and the unseen structures shaping our world.
