We’re loving Nékojita FuFu, the mini robot from Tokyo-based startup Yukai Engineering that cools hot food and drinks by blowing on them. It made its debut at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. (via: designboom)
This portable, attachable mini robot cools hot drinks and food by blowing on them, mimicking human behavior. Equipped with an internal fan, it directs cooling air through its mouth to reduce temperatures effectively.
The Nékojita FuFu features a proprietary “Fu-ing System” algorithm that randomizes blowing strength and rhythm, emulating the way people cool their food. Unlike heat-reducing mugs, this device is rechargeable and doesn’t require plugging in, making it both portable and versatile. Designed with “paws” for anchoring, the robot can hang onto straight-edged foodware (2mm–6mm thick).
At CES 2025, Yukai Engineering demonstrated its efficiency, showing that it can reduce the temperature of hot water from 190°F (88°C) to 160°F (71°C) in three minutes, and further to 151°F (66°C) in five minutes—faster than cooling without the device. Data on its performance with food is forthcoming.
Nékojita FuFu, named after the Japanese term “neko-jita” (meaning “cat tongue,” a phrase for sensitivity to hot food), resembles a cub and blends functional design with a playful aesthetic. The company plans to launch the device in Japan by mid-2025.
Yukai Engineering showcased Nékojita FuFu’s versatile “blowing” modes at CES 2025, including the powerful “I’ve Got This” mode and the more delicate “Not Gonna Spill” option. The design team aims to expand these features with future updates, such as gradually increasing blowing strength and a rapid series of short, strong bursts. For now, the mini robot is slated for release exclusively in Japan.
