Hospital Rooms: Digital Art School @ Hauser & Wirth

Hospital Rooms brings digital workshops and free art materials to every NHS inpatient mental health facility in England. This exhibition in Mayfair channels that initiative with fantastic art and colour across the walls and floor and the chance for visitors to get hands-on and creative. It’s utterly joyous and shows us the power of art. Until 10th September.

A Place: Part II @ Sarabande

Immerse yourself in a room made from different colours and types of baling twine sourced from the countryside by Darcey Fleming, George Richardson creates etchings on aluminium of his unpaid bills, and Electric Adam has created a latex chamber he climbs inside slowly sucking the air out it in a claustrophobic performance. It’s a showcase of the impressive artists who have been residents at the Sarabande this year. Until 6 September.

Enrique Brinkmann at 85: Painting @ Rosenfeld

Upstairs are thick impasto paintings whose rich textures need to be seen in person. While downstairs feels like a completely different artist with flatter paintings and works that incorporate mesh. It is all the work of one artist, Enrique Brinkmann, and this show has both his latest works and looks back over the career of the 85-year-old artist. Until 20th September (re-opens 2nd September).

Hannah Lim: The Enchanted Orchid @ Pangolin London

Hannah Lim is an artist of British and Singaporean heritage who takes on the historical cultural appropriation in Chinoiserie, where Europeans created snuff boxes and other objects in what they considered an Asian style. Lim’s work re-appropriates Eastern symbols such as dragons and tigers to create intricate boxes of her own and works on paper to provide a post-colonial take that draws from her mixed heritage. Until 14th September.

Bringing together works by well-known artists such as Marc Quinn and Philip Colbert with works by those who were once homeless, this exhibition has been organised by charities who work together towards preventing homelessness – Prince William’s Homewards Programme and Eleven Eleven Foundation.  Most impressive are the pieces by artists who were once homeless, including Dave Tovey’s red structure made from his possessions and the parts from a red Peugeot – the same model of car that he used to live out of. Until 20th September.
