The catalogue will be overseen by an editorial and supervisory team comprised of David Hockney himself, his studio assistants and Trustees of the David Hockney Foundation Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima and Jonathan Wilkinson, and David Hockney Inc. staff, as well as researchers, scholars and authors familiar with the artist’s work. The catalogue will feature essays by artists and writers examining individual artworks with particular significance not only to David Hockney’s career but to the history of postwar art and beyond.

The design and execution of the Catalogue Raisonné will be focused on serving the needs of a wide range of students, collectors, curators, fellow artists, and scholars given access to this digital resource.

Shannan Kelly, Director of David Hockney Inc. said:

We have worked very hard over the last few years in expanding and upgrading our inventory and archival databases, adding staff and resources to enhance the preservation and management of physical as well as digital collections of work by David Hockney and all materials associated with his life and career. Our goal now is to begin the work – with the artist’s invaluable oversight, participation and input – creating a comprehensive catalogue that reflects the full range and diversity of David Hockney’s prolific output in a variety of forms and media.

Catalogue Raisonné details:

Approximately 35,000 artwork entries
Volume 1 devoted to painting
The first iteration of the catalogue will be entirely digital; the digital format will allow continued updating with the most current research tools and data
