Moosey Islington to open “Red & Green,” a solo exhibition featuring the remarkable works of Hi-Dutch/ Takahiro Hida. The grand opening is this Saturday, January 6th, from 12-5 pm, where you’ll have the unique opportunity to meet the artist in person.
Hailing from Japan, Hi-Dutch brings a distinctive artistic flair to his creations, drawing inspiration from his expertise in repairing surfboards. His chosen medium, resin, has been skillfully manipulated to bring to life a captivating fusion of yarns, woods, and various materials.
The exhibition showcases Hi-Dutch’s journey, with his resin-based artwork having left an indelible mark not only in galleries but also in stores across diverse cities, including Japan, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, San Jose, Hawaii, Taipei, and Australia.
“The idea for this solo exhibition came to me when I saw red apples and green apples at a fruit store. If
Hi-Dutch
you were a baby and saw two different coloured apples for the first time, would they taste the same?
Sometimes it looks warm, sometimes it looks cold… Even if the shape is the same, different colours give
different impressions. With that in mind, I expanded my imagination and created red and green works
and a space for this solo exhibition. Different colours give different impressions to each viewer. I hope
that the viewer will have many different ways of thinking and feeling.”

About the artist
Epitomising the art of upcycling, Hi-Dutch’s surfboard-repairing skills, and environmental conscience collide in a fusion of recycled materials and specialist craftsmanship. Driftwood, yarn, ink and resin, while not the most obvious combination of materials, become in the hand of Hi-Dutch, the perfect melting pot of mediums.
Hi-Dutch manages to straddle the line between wall-hanging works and three-dimensional forms. Regardless of scale and colour palette, his attention to detail always shines through the varnish–distinctive graining and bold surf deck-inspired line formations; his signature style. @hi_dutch
