Exclusive* Alec Monopoly talks to FAD

We managed to grab some time with the artist & DJ Alec Monopoly just after the release of his art collectable The Space Man Richie while he was on his way to Mykonos for the Summer.

I hear it’s already sold out will we have to wait another two years before the next one?

Not at all!  We have so many exciting things coming up. This is a start to what’s to come and we have plans to release globally in other major countries.

I hear you are doing a lot for the Summer at Mykonos can you give a sneak peek into what you are planning?

I love Mykonos and it’s a second home for me. The energy, scenery, architecture and the people create a magical feel. This summer, I have a music residency at Void. Also, I just partnered with the Mykonos Airport, where I created one of my signature art murals at the airport to greet and welcome travelers to Mykonos.

You launched a new swimwear collection with Chef Nobu – how did that happen?

I have known Chef Nobu for some time now and he inspired me one day during dinner when I drew for him on a napkin. From that drawing, he looked at me that evening and said we should collaborate on some fashion design pieces. The designs I created for the collaboration represent what Nobu is known for with elements of my signature graffiti art. The designs set the tone with bright summer colors and a variety of bathing suits for women, and trunks for men.

So after we get Summer out of the way do you have any plans for an exhibition in Fall 2023?

This Fall, I will be going back on the road and DJing at different festivals globally and we also have some plans to expose my art in Asia. Definitely discussing with my team some ideas for Art Basel in Miami. Let’s see what we will cook up.

You have been an artist for a long time now I think your first show was in 2010 are you planning a retrospective soon?

I haven’t thought of a retrospective but you never know what we will create. My goal is always to innovate with my art and music globally.
