Photo London is on this weekend and here are my five highlights from the fair:

1. Beneath the Surface
Down at Embankment level the V&A has put on a museum quality show featuring 200 photographs from its archive. This could easily be an exhibition at the V&A in its own right so it’s a treat to see it at the fair.

2. Sebastiao Salgado
Another bespoke exhibition, this time of the immense photography by Salgado. It will never match the brilliance of his exhibition Genesis, but you can never have too much of Salgado’s black and white photography.
3. Ben Brown Fine Arts
This gallery has a fantastic array of photographers and they cen be found at the fair – the grand interiors of Candida Hofer, the flowers of Ori Gersht and the innovative Vik Muniz. Another London star of the fair is Wapping Project Bankside and their diverse collection of artists.
4. Galerie les Filles du Calvaire
There’s something entertaining about Karen Knorr’s placement of wild animals within palatial interiors, both for the surreal juxtaposition and the inverse reference to humanity’s relationship with nature.
5. Peter Fetterman
A large space has a section dedicated to the excellent day to night series by Stephen Wilkes, where a city transitions from day to night in one image.
