Tabish Khan brings you five art exhibitions in London that you should visit during the week. Each one comes with a concise review to help you decide whether it’s for you.
1. Richard Serra @ Gagosian, Brittania St
Monumental steel sculptures that are intimidating and mimic a powerful religious experience. A fantastic installation on the topic of life and death.
2. Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize @ National Portrait Gallery
Another great year for this visitor favourite, covering everything from politics, childhood and family – as seen in the brilliant composition of the winner (above).
3. Abbas Khowsari @ Wapping Project Bankside
This photographer shows a different side to Iran with the rather surreal looking burka clad police force abseiling down a wall and great shots capturing colourful neighbourhoods.
4. David Altmejd: Faces @ Modern Art
Grotesque and surreal faces inventively sculpted out of crystals, fruit and various other materials provide a visual feast of ‘anti-faces’.
5. Lunar @ Curious Duke
The winter salon group show features gallery favourites such as portraitist Hannah Adamaszek, landscape artist Sam Peacock and miniature sculptor and photographer Roy’s People.
