Exhibition 29th August – 28th September 2014 Schinkel Pavillon Nina Pohl Oberwallstraße 1 10117 Berlin

Schinkel Pavillon presents the first institutional solo exhibition by Thomas Hirschhorn (*1957 in Bern) in Berlin. Over the past twenty years the Swiss installation artist has created a critical oeuvre questioning the concept of art, proposing a critical body and involving non-exclusive audiences. Höhere Gewalt continues the artist’s practice to transform the white cube into large-scale installations. In contrast to artists shown at this venue before, Hirschhorn does not add an artwork to the exhibition space. He in fact deconstructs the entire space.

Ahead of the opening of Höhere Gewalt Schinkel Pavillon will host a conversation between Thomas Hirschhorn and Prof. Dr. Michael Diers at 6.30 pm. Artist Talk Thomas Hirschhorn & Prof. Dr. Michael Diers Thursday 28th August 6.30 pm

My week in the art world – Berlin vol. 1 – Traces of tactility

This week I flew over to Berlin for the first time to buy a few records, learn how to wear a bum bag as a cross body bag, and, most importantly, to see some wonderfully curated shows. As I had time to consider these in the past few days I realised that tactility and memory were threads connecting Henrique Neves, Louise Bourgeois and Philip Wiegard  as each artist presented traces of his or her past through their chosen medium.
