ART NEWS: Get Your Name in Lights as part of a John Baldessari artwork in Paris.
John Baldessari is launching Your Name in Lights on September 13th, the LA artist is asking anyone willing to send their names to shown up in lights on the façade of the Monnaie de Paris, as part of a a whole series of events which will mark the reopening of the 18th century building.
100,000 people are expected to take part in Baldessari’s illumination. The piece will culminate at the end of October with the opening of the immersive Chocolate Factory project by another LA artist, Paul McCarthy.
Founded in 1864 to mint coins, La Monnaie de Paris is France’s oldest institution. It is in the process of being transformed into a cultural and commercial hub, featuring a contemporary art space as well two high-end restaurants courtesy of Michelin star chef Guy Savoy.

Sprüth Magers has announced the global representation of the Estate of John Baldessari (1931–2020), extending their decades-long relationship with the celebrated conceptual artist.
John Baldessari, the influential conceptual artist who helped transform Los Angeles into a global art capital through his witty image-making and decades of teaching there, died on Thursday at his home in the Venice neighbourhood of Los Angeles. He was 88.
