The ICA is to present The New Ambidextrous Universe, the first solo exhibition in the UK by American artist Tauba Auerbach.

Auerbach’s ICA show will feature newly created sculptures and photography works which take as their starting point the scientific principles of symmetry and reflection as a means to hint at an alternate, mirror universe. While Auerbach is known for her distinctive and meticulous chromatic paintings, The New Ambidextrous Universe provides a unique opportunity to see artworks in new mediums that have been specifically made for the ICA exhibition.

Auerbach’s interests lie between the fields of science, maths, craft and aesthetics. Working in a wide variety of media that includes painting, sculpture, photography, weaving, jewellery making and book design, she creates artworks with analytical precision. Auerbach takes a highly innovative approach to mechanical processes and colour, drawing much of her inspiration from theories of mathematics and physics.

Auerbach’s recent solo exhibitions include Standard, Oslo (2013), Wiels Centre of Contemporary Art, Brussels (2013); Malmö Konsthall, Malmö; and Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen (2011 – 2012). Recent group exhibitions include Ecstatic Alphabets/Heaps of Language, 2012, Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Painting Factory, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Lifelike, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Auerbach will take part in the new ICA book fair Room&Book, in collaboration with Claire de Rouen Books, from 6th June – 8th June 2014.
