About DEBUT CONTEMPORARY

An innovative business model at the forefront of demystifying the art world
# springboard, art incubator, entrepreneurship, trendsetting, art, inspiration,
innovation, empowerment, visionary, online commerce, art dinners, bespoke events

Founders Samir Ceric and Zoe Knight, a creative business duo and visionaries, also the brains behind the highly acclaimed concept store “Wolf & Badger”, were early in recognizing the need for democratising the art world and empowering artists in the process, envisioning a long-term change in the structure. Since the launch of Debut Contemporary in 2011 over 150 artists have already joined the professional development scheme, and profited by making a positive change to their practice, making them confidence-driven and business-minded individuals, resulting in success stories across the board around their art practice. Debut Contemporary serves as a springboard and provides artists with the support structure, successfully guiding them through this crucial process.

Unlike at other galleries, for a fee of £95 per week, carefully selected artists benefit from regular mentoring sessions and weekly workshops with industry professionals, laid out to equip artists with a business savvy mind. Their work is showcased and sold in a prime gallery location in Notting Hill. The gallery operates at a 30/70 split of sales, with the majority going through the artist, and encourages a very transparent buyer-artist relationship. Debut believe that the relationship between artist and collector holds a key for a successful career as an artist. Minimum time to join is 6 months, up to max 1 year. Debut promote importance of relationship building and infrastructure building as well as core principles of success.

Artists are encouraged to plan their own creative “Saturday Debut” event, participate in educational workshops with schools and network during monthly Private Views and the recently launched monthly “Art Dinners”, a bespoke dining experience that celebrates the fusion of intellectual and creative minds.

ONLINE SHOP: it is the go-to place to discover and buy original art online, by artist that are actually all part of Debut Contemporary, rather than randomly selected.

COLLABORATIONS: Debut Contemporary have previously teamed up with Crowdbank, Art Stack, Annoushka Jewellery, Purling London (and Harrods via this collaboration), The Mine Dubai, OCCCA LA, SEE NY, ArtFix London (Oxford Street) to get artists involved in new exciting projects that bring them opportunities for visibility and investment. Debut are aiming to set up a pop up store in Selfridges and eventually run its own concession space in the world’s leading department store.
