The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has launched its new web series called ’82nd and 5th.’ Every week, two videos will be released that will allow online visitors to explore the different artworks in the museum. By the end of this year, there will be a total of 100 short videos.

Each two-minute video will feature one art work, and be presented by one curator. 11 museum photographers will also transform the curators’ audio commentaries into moving visuals.

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, explains that:

82nd & Fifth is a project that speaks directly to my interest in using the Met’s collection to link historical art and culture to the real world. In a sea of constant information, these two-minute, authoritative commentaries are a welcome way to get powerful and compelling content in quick doses. We hope they will intrigue audiences who love the Met and those who are new to art.

Each video will also be accompanied by an interactive feature that allows visitors to explore the art in more details. The project was launched on 31 January, 2013, and two new episodes will be published every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. through to 25 December, 2013.via:PSFK
