The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow announced it is developing plans for new projects in Russia. These will include expanding to St Petersburg as part of the re-development of the island of New Holland, as well as a continuing presence in Moscow. Dasha Zhukova, Founder of The Garage, said: “I am excited about this next stage of The Garage’s development and the possibility of expanding to the cultural landscape of St Petersburg. We will release more details of our plans for New Holland once they are finalised in the coming year.” The Garage’s programme in Moscow for 2011 will have an international focus with exhibitions including:
Cuba in Revolution
Over 180 photographs exploring one of the most spectacular political events of the twentieth century – the Cuban Revolution of 1959 – by thirty photographers including Constantino Arias, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Raul Corrales. The exhibition is organised by ICP Chief Curator, Brian Wallis and the curator for The International Art Heritage Foundation (IAHF), Mark Sanders.
The Museum of Everything
The international museum for non-traditional and self-taught art, will collaborate with The Garage on its inaugural Russian exhibition, following its critically acclaimed shows across Europe, including the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Italy and Tate Modern in London.
New York Minute
An exhibition of sixty artists working in and around New York, which brings together a complete survey of the new tendencies coming out of New York City, and its extended networks. The show will be curated by Kathy Grayson with design by Rafael de Cárdenas.
In addition to an exciting programme of exhibitions in Moscow, The Garage will present a series of off-site projects including new commissions in Madrid during the ARCO and at the 2011 Venice Biennale in June. Addressing the recent transition of The Garage’s Mollie Dent-Brucklehurst to an advisory role, Dasha Zhukova commented: “We wish Mollie every success for the future. She has completed her assignment as the Garage’s International Programme Coordinator and we will now be looking for a curatorial director to take our plans to the next stage. We are delighted that she will remain connected to the Garage in an advisory capacity.”
