Kai & Sunny ‘Return To The Wild’ at Stolen Space Private View Thursday June 3rd

04.06.10 – 20.06.10
Kai & Sunny are a prolific, multidisciplinary design duo, whose work appears in many arenas of art: fashion, advertising, publishing, illustration and exhibitions. Their work has won them multiple accolades, including a D&AD award in illustration/design.

‘Return to the Wild’ is the follow-up show to ‘What A Wonderful World’, exhibited at the StolenSpace Gallery London in January 2009. Like ‘What A Wonderful World’, Kai and Sunny continue to explore the feelings that nature can project. Their new body of work in ‘Return To The Wild’ goes further, capturing landscapes that we know don’t exist and yet convey that feeling of ‘déjà vu’. That’s because these pieces come from a more emotional point of view that hits the viewer on a visceral level.

As many artists have explored throughout history, there are preconceived ideas of how certain landscapes are intended to make us feel: Should birds in flight always give us an uplifting feeling? Does the sun always dance magically on the water? is wind constantly intended to give you that ‘warm’ feeling as it sweeps through blades of grass? Through their uniquely intricate, geometrical style, Kai and Sunny challenge these clichés. That’s not to say these heartfelt feelings of nature don’t exist, but Kai and Sunny are here to show their viewers the antithesis and everything in between.

‘Return to the Wild’ opening this June, will also see the release of a limited edition screen print along with an equally suitable soundtrack created by Unkle’s Pablo.

I studied Quantum Mechanics and had a pretty good job offer from some company in the US called NASA, but graffiti, skateboarding and art took me down a very different path.
