To mark the final week of the exhibition Billy Childish, Unknowable But Certain, the ICA’s Lower Gallery will host an evening launch of Childish’s most recent book Bombs, Buggery and Buddhism or Diaries of a Mock Human Being, Part the 1st. Published by L-13 Press, this is the first of three pocket books that will make up a hundred page biography; a hypothetical reconstruction sourced from historical evidence dealing with notions of identity, originality and authenticity through the real life adventures of the hero William Loveday, cataloguing his exploits in fact and fiction. The book also includes the responses of eminent academics Doktor Albirt Umber and Karl St. Bernard Lampenschwartz.
The event will also mark the launch of two parallel publications; the biographical notes of Umber and St. Bernard Lampenschwartz written by artist Charlotte C. Young, and a FREE broadsheet style publication edited by writer Neal Brown that comprises interviews about Childish’s work, including contributions from artist Martin Creed and Huddie, Theodora and Emily – the children of Childish, Brown and Childish’s gallerist Steve Lowe.
Billy Childish and Charlotte Young will read from their books and will be available to sign all purchases afterwards.
This event is free, but capacity is limited.
