Hackney Wicked Art Festival is back with a BOOM! Hackney WickED, dubbed by NY Arts Magazine as ‘the most vital art event of the summer’ is set to blitz the capital in its second year running. This major event will showcase the new blood of contemporary art in a rising generation of galleries and open studios.

Grand opening of Hackney Wicked Friday 31 July 2009 from 6pm – 9pm at various locations Hackney Wick throws opens its gates to present cutting edge gallery shows from some of London’s most extraordinary Galleries and a plethora of artists’ Open- Studios.

Gallery shows include:

The Tomorrow People: artists of the future now At Elevator Gallery curated by rising starlets Simon Reuben White and Snoozie Hexagon showcasing a hand picked selection of the best work from emerging artists across the nation.

Kobetsvasey will be curating ‘Between my Finger and my Thumb’ at Schwartz Gallery for Schwartz Projects, a multi-disciplinary intervention in the gallery space exploring and disrupting modes and expectations of group show hangs.

Decima Gallery will host The Decima Mini-Festival of non-stop partying, free drinking, dogs and disco dancing featuring in it’s second year running the Decima Art Olympics and comprising the Decima Travelling Shop.

Top and Tail Gallery presents ‘Glory Hole’ an exhibition revolving around Victorian London. From the Dickensian Gin palaces to the squalor of East end lifestyle.

Whippit will present ‘InCounter’ at Counter Café also exhibitions will be opening at Mission Gallery, Fish Island Gallery, Stour Gallery and Main Yard Gallery.

Confirmed Highlights include: artist Dave Notorious’ Artscream Truck, The Resurrection of Laura May’s iconic HollyWick sign from the giddy heights of Oslo House, Fish Island Street Party, a Cave Installation, Cabaret, a Floating Gallery, Flash Mob Punk Choir, Sonic Art Installations, a Live Graffiti Jam, Out Door Film Screening, Guided Tours, Workshops, Portable Cinema, Poetry, Ashes and Diamonds Theatre Group and Burning of The Wicker Man at dusk.
