APRIL 1 & 2 SALE AT CHRISTIE’S NEW YORK
Following the outstanding results achieved for Fine Chinese Art from the Arthur M.
Sackler Collections on March 18, Christie’s will feature additional pieces from this collection in its Interiors sale on April 1 and 2. With a remarkable 99% sell-through rate by lot and by value, the recent sale totaled $10.9 million and further reinforced that rare and exceptional works with excellent provenance continue to generate huge interest and demand from collectors throughout the world.
Dr. Arthur M. Sackler was one of America’s foremost art collectors. The range of his interests was extraordinary and included Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Pre-Columbian art as well as European ceramics, sculpture, paintings and drawings from the medieval to the modern periods.
Among the highlights included in the upcoming Interiors sale are two Chinese archaic bronze ritual wine vessels from the late Shang Dynasty (pictured page one right – estimate: $2,000-3,000); a Chinese unbound album of ten landscape paintings in the style of Tang and Song masters with a colophon on two leaves (pictured page one middle – estimate: $3,000-5,000); a Korean green lacquered, mother-of-pearl, shagreen and tortoiseshell cabinet (pictured page one center – estimate: $3,000-4,000); a Chinese huanghuali waisted corner-leg low table (estimate: $8,000-12,000); and a Chinese painting of roses and butterfly (estimate: $5,000-7,000).
In total, the Interiors sale includes over 850 items from various owner collections, including many one-of-a-kind items in virtually every style from antique to contemporary.
