31 January – 17 May 2009
Diana Thater’s gorillagorillagorilla is a study of human and animal behaviour and their relationship with one another and was filmed in the Cameroon. This large multi-media installation is a collaborative project between the Kunsthaus Graz and London’s Natural History Museum, created for the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth.
The work is an ambient visual arrangement that uses images of nature, lights and the irregular surfaces of the gallery space to effect a man-made equivalent to the wilderness of an African rainforest and the movement of animals. Described by the artist as an ‘orchestra of space’, it continues her ongoing articulation of the dialogue between sculpture and architecture through the use of moving images.
In a public event tomorrow(JAN 30th) at 4pm, Diana Thater will hold a conversation with the curators of the show, Peter Pakesch and Adam Budak.
