Michael Muller at Guy Hepner Los Angeles

Lumiere
(l??-my?r’, lŸ-) French chemist, inventor, and cinematography pioneer. With his brother
Louis Jean Lumiere (1864-1948) he gave the ?rst public showing of a cinematic ?lm
(1895).

– Guy Hepner opens its doors on September 18, with renowned photographer Michael
Muller?s latest exhibit LUMIERE. The photographs, all shot in the South of France, are
inspired by the storming of the Bastille in 1789.

LUMIERE

is a series of photographs inspired by both the freedom of the ocean and the storming
of the Bastille. The symbol of the birth of the modern French nation, Muller reinterprets
the iconic, historical event as his personal uprising as an artist.
About Muller?s exhibition, gallery owner Guy Hepner said, “Lumiere represents further
demonstration of the experimental and dynamic working methods of Michael Muller.
Photography is transcended; the work represents a thought provoking juxtapose to
contemporary photography”

“This year, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Independence Day in three different
nations: The United States, France and Indonesia,” remarked Muller on his upcoming
exhibition. “For one night, people re?ect on their freedom, an awakening of sorts. Their
emotions are represented in my work through chosen imagery– people, ?reworks and
the ocean. Most of my images are blurry or distorted– the same lens through which
people view their freedom throughout the year. I see life as colorful and liberated– free
to express, to speak, to love. I hope my images unleash a little color in the viewer?s eye,
and open their soul.”
