They Abide and They Endure – Chloë Brown
An installation at Persistence Works, Sheffield from 4th – 22nd September 2006
Chloë Brown showcases a series of highly charged tableaux in this solo exhibition including; “They Abide and They Endure” and “Dear One”.
Brown’s imaginative and provocative new pieces exploit the combination of taxidermy, sound, film and sculpture to create work that draws on a variety of personal and cultural references from cartoons, films and children’s literature. Her work articulates the mutability of life with a palpable sense of fear and unease but also touches upon the possibility of enchantment.
It is this ambitious combination of both familiar and yet unlikely sculptural materials that continues to make Brown’s work so compelling and refreshingly vital. The contemporary world often seems devoid of enchantment and lacks the confidence to speculate about home truths that are our worst fears. This exhibition goes some way to offer the conditions to consider these things.
Private View on Friday 8th September from 6pm to 8pm.
