FAD Magazine covers contemporary art – News, Exhibitions and Interviews reported on from London

BBC2’s Private View team

For two years now, the FAD team have been hoovering up private views and art shows, offering our own very personal take on the art scene in London and beyond.

Now the BBC is doing something similar, but different. It’s “3pm ladies”, June Whitfield and Liz Smith are, it says, a a “cultured antidote to the Mirror’s 3am girls”. We prefer to see them as the OAP wing of the FAD revolution.

Whitfield (best know for her roles in Terry and June, Absolutely Fabulous and numerous Carry On films) and Smith (Nana from the Royle Family, Grandma Georgina from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) are apparently keen amateur art critics who “know what they like”. They will share tea and cakes while chatting over cultural attractions such as Hauser & Wirth’s Coppermill (featuring work from Dieter Roth’s and Martin Kippenberger).
