Marking the culmination of Diasporas Now’s yearlong residency at ICA, this artist takeover responds to the live art collective’s notion of ‘home’.
Julian Knxx (b. 1987, Freetown, Sierra Leone) is a British artist, poet and filmmaker working across film, text, performance and installation. His practice explores memory, migration, spirituality and Black diasporic identity through spoken word and moving image. Julian Knxx is known for immersive film installations that combine poetic narration with cinematic landscapes, creating spaces where history and personal reflection intersect.
Drawing on his Sierra Leonean heritage, Knxx weaves together archival material, oral histories and contemporary experience. His work often centres collective memory and ancestral knowledge, positioning storytelling as both cultural preservation and future-building. Language plays a central role, with voice operating as structure, rhythm and emotional anchor.
Julian Knxx has exhibited internationally in museums and biennials, contributing to conversations around Black British art, postcolonial identity and contemporary moving image practice. His interdisciplinary approach places him within a growing field of artists using poetry and film as tools for social and historical inquiry.
