Gabriel Chaile (b. 1985, San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina) creates monumental sculptural forms that draw on ancestral knowledge, communal rituals and the politics of care. Working primarily with clay, adobe and brick, he builds oven-like figures and vessel forms that echo pre-Columbian architecture while functioning as contemporary monuments.
Chaile’s sculptures are grounded in use as much as symbolism. Referencing communal cooking, nourishment and shared labour, his works position sculpture as a social structure—one shaped by collective memory and lived tradition. Faces, bodies and architectural elements merge into forms that feel both ancient and insistently present.
Rooted in Indigenous heritage and material intelligence, Chaile’s practice reframes monumentality through intimacy and care. By elevating everyday rituals into sculptural language, he proposes an art of continuity—where making becomes an act of remembrance, resilience and communal belonging.
