For those seeking a bit of cultural solace from the consumerist skirmish of London’s Oxford Street, the wait is finally over. Reopening its doors on 19th May 2012, The Photographers’ Gallery is back in the game and newly refurbished with extended gallery space, an education floor, an archival room, research facilities, a camera obscura, an extension to the popular bookshop, research facilities, a video wall and after all that, a bigger cafe to rest up and re-caffeinate. FAD talked to the Gallery’s director, Brett Rogers, about the thinking behind this triumphant redesign.
