Anli Hou is a contemporary jewelry artist whose work delves into the deeper meaning of jewelry as a form of expression. To her, jewelry is far more than decoration—it’s a language, a medium for storytelling, and a way to connect with others on an emotional and intellectual level. Every piece she creates carries a message, encouraging reflection and conversation, and often blurring the line between adornment and art.
Between reality and dreams, between nature and imagination, every journey and all dreams

serve as an endless source of inspiration along my artistic path.
At the heart of Anli’s practice is a deep concern for authentic human connection, especially in a digital age where social media often fosters shallow interactions. Her work responds to this disconnect by exploring how jewelry can act as a tool for “visual recognition,” helping individuals identify shared values and interests, and sparking meaningful, face-to-face dialogue. She invites her audience to re-engage with the real world through jewelry that acts as both personal expression and social catalyst.
Anli’s inspiration is deeply personal, rooted in emotional memory and life experience. From the cherished trinkets of her childhood to her global travels as an adult, jewelry has always played a role in marking moments and emotions. Some of her designs are whimsical, inspired by childhood dreams, while others reflect her cultural observations, transforming fleeting encounters into lasting visual narratives.
Her creative process is exploratory and material-driven. She blends traditional metalwork with unexpected materials like clay, wood, pearls, and fabric, constantly pushing the boundaries of jewelry-making. She’s equally intrigued by how jewelry is worn, often designing pieces that challenge conventional formats and encourage interaction. Through her work, Anli redefines the idea of what jewelry can be—immersive, surprising, and emotionally resonant.

Since launching her debut collection Trance in 2021, Anli has continued to evolve her artistic voice. After earning her master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in 2022, she released further collections including Trance II and The Sea, which have been showcased at international events such as Milano Jewelry Week, Romanian Jewelry Week, and the Parallax Art Fair in London. Her practice also extends into tableware, objects, and sculpture, reflecting a broad and thoughtful approach to form and material. In 2021, she received the Contemporary Cutlery Design Competition award, with her work acquired by the historic Cutlers’ Company.

For Anli, creating jewelry is a way to preserve memories and imagine new futures. She also offers bespoke services, working closely with clients to create custom pieces that hold deep personal meaning. Whether it’s through one-of-a-kind designs or experimental collections, Anli Hou continues to transform jewelry into an intimate and powerful expression of identity, connection, and emotion.
A look at Anli’s Work
Anli Hou’s work offers a gentle counterpoint to the fast-paced, overstimulated world we live in. In a society where constant information and digital noise leave little room for stillness, her creations offer a space for quiet reflection—a retreat for the senses and the spirit. Drawing from personal rituals and emotional touchstones, Anli’s work transforms ordinary materials into portals of calm and contemplation.
Two elements have played a significant role in her personal life and artistic practice: holographic surfaces and candlelight. To Anli, these aren’t just aesthetic choices—they are deeply emotional and experiential. Holographic materials captivate her with their ever-shifting colors and reflections, pulling her into a meditative trance that blurs the boundary between dream and reality. They represent a momentary escape—a low-cost, low-stakes entry into imagination and rest.

Candles, on the other hand, symbolize comfort, security, and home. Lighting a candle becomes a nightly ritual for Anli, a quiet moment to recenter and reconnect. The soft, flickering glow creates an intimate atmosphere, offering peace in contrast to the harshness of daily life. Together, holographic light and candlelight form the core of her recent explorations—where light itself becomes a material for emotion.
Inspired by this interplay, Anli has begun crafting pieces that merge metalwork with holographic plastics and candle elements. These works—like sculptural candle holders—invite viewers into a sensory experience. As light reflects and refracts across shimmering surfaces, it creates a dance of vivid color and motion, filling the space with a sense of wonder. The result is more than a decorative object—it’s a functional artwork designed to soothe, inspire, and transport.
At its heart, Anli’s work is about emotional resonance. She creates pieces that act as visual meditations—encouraging stillness, connection, and a reconnection with the self. Through her unique combination of material, memory, and mood, she continues to expand the possibilities of jewelry and object design, offering moments of tranquility in a world that rarely pauses.
