Review: The Salon by NADA and The Community in Paris.

At the first edition of The Salon by NADA and The Community in Paris, feathers, gilt, bows, and florals took centre stage. From Marc Dennis’ pairing of bubbles and flowers in his contemporary take on a still-life to the satin sashes of Camille Soulat, and the Gucci bag collages at Aziimut, the Salon shows a vision of contemporary opulence. At Voloshyn, black and white feathers are seen in a diptych and stunning translucent panels, designed by different members of the artist residency at Villa Filanda Antonini create incredible light effects. But not all glitters is (just) gold—the peaceful golden glow in Erika Kobayashi’s “Sky” doesn’t tell the wartime stories the artist collected from women about their experience of World World II. Responding to the making of the Japanese paper bomb, the artist not only sourced stories, but also bullet casings from Okinawa. See this and our other selections from the invitational fair below:
