If you’re wondering whether living in Florida is right for you, you’re not alone. Many people share your sentiments when hit by the popularity of the Sunshine State.

Florida’s population is growing fast, and it’s one of the most sought-after destinations in America. It all makes sense because many are drawn to the state due to what it offers.

There are plenty of benefits to living in Florida. This post highlights some of these benefits you will enjoy year-round.

  1. Housing Costs

The housing cost in Florida isn’t ridiculously high as it probably should be considering the state’s popularity. Compared to New York and the other sunny state, California, Florida is undoubtedly more affordable.

Granted, the national median rent and national median home price stand at $1,967 and $388,800, respectively. Both are lower than Florida, where the median home price is $410,000.  But the difference is slight and generally manageable if it allows you to live in a state like Florida.

  1. The Weather

Most people are attracted to Florida because of its weather. It has over 200 sunny days, with average temperatures of 72 degrees. The summers are hotter and more humid, with temperatures ranging from 88 to 95 degrees.

The winters in Florida are mild and warm, with a temperature range of 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

The warm sunny weather undoubtedly makes the Sunshine State the place to be, especially if you love spending time outdoors.

  1. Income Tax

The lack of income tax is one of the things that make Florida attractive to outsiders. Let’s face it, we are proud to pay our taxes as the money goes into building the nation, but it can be a huge strain on your wallet.

So when a state like Florida decides to relieve you of some of that burden, it’s worth considering a move. Basically, with no income tax, whatever you earn as income is yours to keep regardless of your job.

The state also has a lower sales tax at 6% with few exceptions where it’s even lower. Property taxes are lower as well, with an average of 0.89% of the property value. For instance, if your home’s value is 280,000, you’ll be paying the state $2,500 annually in property taxes, which is lower than the national average.

With such a lenient tax landscape, it’s not surprising that people admire and wish to move to Florida.

  1. The Outdoors

Florida’s Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico have created an extensive coastline with white sandy beaches. The breathtaking shoreline attracts many people to enjoy the scenery and partake in water activities like swimming, snorkeling, boating, paddle boarding, etc.

Besides the coast, Florida has notable attractions in places like Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Key West. The nightlife, historic sites, and entertainment complexes are a huge part of the state’s outdoor experience.

But Florida isn’t all about the city and the shores. The state’s national forests offer abundant recreational opportunities like exploring the underwater cave systems, watching wildlife, kayaking, and hiking the scenic trail systems.

  1. Good Food

Florida’s population is a mix of residents, Americans from other parts of the country, and people from all over the world.

Expect a cultural melting pot that influences things like art and cuisine. The diverse traditions have resulted in unique cuisines from around the world.

You will enjoy American and exotic culinary flavors like Mediterranean, Mexican, and the Indian subcontinent without leaving the state.

  1. Good Transportation

There’s good transportation throughout Florida regardless of which part of the state you visit. A good highway system means you’ll move freely, whether driving or using public means like trains and buses.

With plenty of airports, from Miami to Orlando to Jacksonville, flying to different areas is effortless and convenient.

You can also connect to Florida’s numerous islands via ferry. Merritt Island, on the central Atlantic coast, is the state’s main island and home to the Kennedy Space Center. You can access it via the Max Brewer Causeway Bridge from Titusville.

Final Thoughts

Life is fantastic in Florida because the benefits are immense, most of which you will experience year-round.

But it’s also important to consider the downsides, like the occasional extreme weather due to the state’s location in the hurricane belt.
The state is also slow in embracing the nationwide marijuana movement. With only a medical program in place, you’ll have to be a qualified patient. Head over to Veriheal to learn more about the medical marijuana program.
