Artist Doug Fishbone to test visitors art knowledge with forgery hung during his exhibition @DulwichGallery

Visitors to the Dulwich Picture Gallery will be challenged to locate a forgery placed amongst their collection of art from artists such as Rubens, Titian, and Gainsborough. This will be part of Contemporary American artist Doug Fishbone latest Made in China project.

Fishbone has commissioned China-based oil paint specialists Xiamen to re-create the piece, the forgery will replace the original masterpiece from 3rd February through until 26th July 2015.

Fishbone states in a recent talk with artnet News,

“I’m hoping that it will encourage people to look with much greater focus and with a heightened sense of awareness at the actual artworks. When you walk into a collection with a large amount of paintings, it’s very easy to gloss over everything quickly and to take it all in as a kind of vista.”

Co-curated by conceptual artist Doug Fishbone and Dr Xavier Bray, Arturo and Holly Melosi Chief Curator at the Gallery.
