On 21st October, a selection of artworks donated to the Red Cross, including pieces by Picasso, Goya, Tracey Emin and Turner prize winner Grayson Perry, will be sold through silent auction at an event generously hosted by His Excellency Mr Keiichi Hayashi at the Embassy of Japan. Members of the public can also donate works, as well as view and place bids on the art by visiting www.art4lifebritishredcrossifc.com

From 24 November -6 December 2014 a priceless collection of contemporary art, with a Red Cross theme, will be displayed at the Royal College of Art in aid of the Red Cross.

The exhibition will feature priceless artworks from the Catalan Red Cross never before exhibited in the UK, including Joan Mirós iconic Tapis de Tarragona and works by many of Spain’s foremost artists such as: Antoni Tàpies, Javier Mariscal, Antoni Clavé, Joan Hernández Pijuan and Miquel Barceló.

On Saturday 29 November the same gallery will exhibit artworks made by children aged between four and fourteen which reflect their understanding of the work of the Red Cross. This will offer visitors the opportunity to see how the world’s oldest and largest humanitarian organisation appears through the eyes of its youngest supporters.

Maria Shammas MBE, Chair of the International Fundraising Committee of the British Red Cross said: “We are so excited to launch Art for Life 2014 and have a really wonderful series of events lined up which will satisfy art lovers and Red Cross supporters alike. We are absolutely thrilled to be able to offer a rare chance not only to see this unique collection of artwork, but also to be able to offer people the opportunity to purchase some incredible works for a great cause. We want to celebrate the humanity in art, and use this celebration to raise money for our humanitarian work.”

The Red Cross is the largest and oldest humanitarian organisation in the world. All profits raised from the events will go directly to Red Cross projects helping people in crisis both in the UK and overseas.
