A new chapter has begun for one of Italy’s most important cultural institutions. The Board of Directors of Fondazione La Triennale di Milano has been appointed, with art historian, curator and academic Vincenzo Trione unanimously elected as President.
The newly constituted board met for the first time on 4th June 2026 and will serve a four-year term. Trione succeeds Stefano Boeri, who led the institution for more than seven years and oversaw a period of significant international expansion and renewed visibility for the historic Milan institution.
Alongside Trione’s appointment, Maria Adele Porro was elected Vice President, while Carla Morogallo was confirmed as Director General.
One of Italy’s most prominent voices on contemporary art, Trione is Professor of Art and Media and History of Contemporary Art at IULM University in Milan. Throughout his career, he has combined academic research, curatorial practice and cultural leadership, becoming a key figure in Italy’s contemporary art landscape.
His extensive curatorial experience includes serving as curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 and Commissioner of the XIV Rome Quadriennale. He has also directed major cultural initiatives, including Valencia 09 – Confines. Pasajes de las artes contemporáneas, and led the Department of Research and Training at the Madre Museum in Naples.
Beyond exhibition-making, Trione is known internationally for his writing and criticism. A long-time contributor to Corriere della Sera, he has published extensively on modern and contemporary art, the avant-garde and the relationship between art, media and society. His books include Artivismo. Arte, politica, impegno (2022), Prologo celeste. Nell’atelier di Anselm Kiefer (2023), and Rifare il mondo. Le età dell’avanguardia (2025).
In 2020, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Sergio Mattarella.
The appointment comes at a significant moment for La Triennale di Milano, which continues to expand its international profile through major exhibitions, architecture and design programming, research initiatives and the internationally renowned International Exhibition that takes place every three years.
Founded in 1923, La Triennale remains one of Europe’s leading institutions dedicated to contemporary culture, architecture, design and visual arts. Trione’s appointment signals a leadership deeply rooted in contemporary art discourse while maintaining strong connections to Italy’s academic and cultural sectors.
The new Board of Directors includes representatives from Italy’s Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region and the Chamber of Commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi, reflecting the institution’s unique position at the intersection of culture, civic life and public policy.
As La Triennale approaches its next phase, Trione brings a combination of scholarly expertise, curatorial experience and cultural leadership that is likely to shape the institution’s future direction both within Italy and internationally.
