Maintenance Work: Practices of Care, which opens at The Good Rice Gallery, brings together artists working across installation, performance, video and sculpture.

The exhibition considers maintenance not as a finished act, but as an ongoing process shaped by care, repetition and attention. The works gathered here resist resolution. Instead, they remain in flux, sustained through gestures that are often quiet, provisional and incomplete. From material processes to relational encounters, the exhibition explores how practices are held together over time and how they continue to evolve through interaction.

Moving through the space, visitors are invited to engage with works that unfold gradually, creating moments of contact and reflection. Rather than presenting fixed meanings, Maintenance Work opens up a field of relations, where meaning emerges through proximity, duration and shared presence.

Maintenance finds its roots in manu tenere, to hold with the hand. It speaks of a state of holding on, of not letting go. This exhibition brings together artists who sustain their practices through care and repetition. Gathering their works in one place, the exhibition invites a shared encounter with what is held in our hands and in our lives, in this moment.
