Stone Island returns as the official partner of Frieze LA’s Focus section, the fair’s platform spotlighting emerging galleries.
Following on from artist-designed staff uniforms at recent London and New York editions by Hasani Sahlehe and Nat Faulkner, Stone Island & Frieze work with Jamal Cyrus on their first-ever limited-edition T-shirt collaboration.

The garment translates Cyrus’s 2025 work Archipelagos in a Negro Spiritual into a wearable form. The original piece, constructed from bleached denim, cotton thread and batting, burlap, and barnacles, is digitally reimagined on a garment-dyed tee, finished with a raised surface that nods to the work’s physical density and tactile charge. It’s less merch, more extension of practice.
Based in Houston, Cyrus is known for a materially driven approach that combines collage, assemblage, and archival research. In recent years, denim has become central to his work, drawing on the language of quilting to trace Black political histories, cultural memory, and systems of power embedded in everyday materials. These concerns carry directly into his solo presentation with PATRON at Focus, where he debuts a new body of work incorporating denim and musical instruments—objects loaded with social, sonic, and historical resonance.
The Jamal Cyrus × Stone Island × Frieze T-shirt will be available in limited quantities at the Publications & Merch shop at Santa Monica Airport during the fair, as well as at Stone Island’s La Brea store, while stocks last.
