Photoworks is 30 in 2025 and as part of the celebrations its latest Annual takes a look both backwards and forwards.

30 Years of Photoworks includes a comprehensive history of the art charity, featuring interviews with past directors such as Anne McNeill and Shoair Mavlian, as well as an in-depth interview with Juliette Buss, Photoworks’ Head of Learning & Education, whose ground-breaking work has just been recognised with an RPS award.

30 Years of Photoworks also includes portfolios by artists commissioned by the organisation over the last 30 years, including Henna Nadeem, whose collages are currently on show at Autograph, and Theo Simpson, who is currently showing new installations at the V&A. The 2025 Annual also includes portfolios by artists from its present and near-future, including Sayuri Ichida, whose newly-commissioned work for the Jerwood/Photoworks Award goes on show across the UK in 2026, at London: Drawing Room/Tannery Arts, Barnsley Civic; Ffotogallery, Cardiff; and Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow.

Readers can also delve into Desert Island Pics, combining old and new interviews with photographers such as Johny Pitts, Eileen Perrier, and Olivia Arthur, picking out the images which inspire them.

And going back to the future, we ask writers from around the world and from a range of perspectives to consider, What will photography look like in 30 years’ time?
Photoworks Annual is a print publication, designed by Jane & Jeremy and edited by Diane Smyth.
