Celebrated artist, filmmaker, and longtime amfAR supporter Julian Schnabel is offering an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a commissioned plate portrait in his highly sought after unique practice of painting on broken dishes at this year’s amfAR Venezia benefit gala on Sunday, August 31st. Schnabel’s plate portraits belong to the collections of the Museum of Modern Art New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Tate Modern London, amongst others, as well as in numerous private collections. Schnabel will also be presented with amfAR’s Award of Inspiration at this year’s gala, in recognition of his longstanding commitment to amfAR’s lifesaving research.

“Julian Schnabel’s generous donations of artwork over the past 25 years have raised millions of dollars in support of amfAR’s lifesaving research,”

amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost said.

“His generosity and passion have truly helped move our work forward in the fight against HIV/AIDS and we are deeply grateful for his continued support.”

Since Schnabel first donated a work to amfAR through its TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art gala in 2000, the Foundation’s research has contributed to the development of lifesaving antiretroviral treatments and new prevention methods that have saved countless lives and drastically reduced HIV infections. Funds raised at amfAR Venezia will support amfAR’s efforts to develop a cure for AIDS and end the epidemic once and for all.

Presenting Sponsor of amfAR Venezia is World Gold Council. Chopard is Signature Sponsor. San Clemente Palace Venice, managed by Mandarin Oriental, is the official hotel partner. The event will also be generously supported by Boroli Wines, Campari, RUMOR Rosé, and Variety. The gala, which raises funds for amfAR’s lifesaving biomedical research programs, will be hosted by Award-winning actor and amfAR supporter Colman Domingo.
