The Artists’ Fair returns to Somerset House Studios on 7th & 8th June following the great success of the previous two editions. This year, the fair expands to an ambitious weekend of activity. The Artists’ Fair builds on its previous discussions and insights to present a responsive weekend of events addressing contemporary concerns artists face today. The weekend event offers talks, performances and workshops, all designed to aid the sharing of resources, explore strategies, and propose new approaches to sustaining a practice.
Highlights include:
The 20 artists with stalls will be paid a fee for their involvement and retain 100% of their profit
A selection of Studios’ artists will create an exclusively designed t-shirt for the event, in collaboration with Everpress and available online for sale
Panel discussions and workshops to take place over the weekend featuring Studios artists and alumni Laura Grace Ford, Jamila Johnson-Small and Harun Morrison, Ilona Sagar and Leila Dear around the topics of resistance, collaboration and radical ways of living
Child-centred workshops by Spaghetti Club invite a light-hearted crit session to include works by Jasleen Kaur, Jenkin Van Zyl, Hannah Perry and more
Our rolling programme of workshops and presentations, Grounding Practice returns with two new events Art Aches with John Costi and a Somerset House tour with Onyeka Igwe
A Studios-produced zine will be available featuring exclusive texts and art
A speed dating networking event for creatives to connect for collaboration, mentorship, friendship, or romance
Breaking away from the traditional commercial art fair, The Artists’ Fair features market stalls hosted by Somerset House Studios resident artists, with 100% of the profits going directly to the artists. The stalls will offer a range of items, from unique artworks to affordable prints, publications, and wearable merchandise. The artists are paid for their time over the weekend and retain 100% of their sales, with much of the work produced on-site at the Studios. The artist-led market offers a unique opportunity to connect with 20 artist-sellers and learn about their practices and the works they have for sale.
Nestled within Somerset House, the UK’s largest artistic and creative community, the Studios have up to 70 artists in residence at once, supporting artists to develop new ideas and projects that engage with the most pressing contemporary issues. At the forefront of critical thinking and dialogue across artistic disciplines, its key commitment is maintaining a space for creativity, experimentation, and “messiness” in central London, ensuring artists are not priced out of the capital.
Somerset House Studios is known for its exceptional and innovative cross-disciplinary programmes, which have grown in scale and ambition year after year, supporting a wide range of artists, including Turner Prize winners and nominees such as Tai Shani, Sin Wai Kin, Jesse Darling, and Jasleen Kaur.
