As Frieze LA week ignites the city with artistic energy, Nicodim Gallery presents two compelling solo exhibitions that challenge perception and tradition. Rae Klein’s DOUBLECROSS conjures a dreamlike world where reality and illusion dissolve into one another. In contrast, Teresa Murta’s To Meet on the Riverbend reimagines abstraction with warmth and fluidity.
Rae Klein

DOUBLECROSS, Rae Klein’s latest exhibition at Nicodim Los Angeles, explores the space between paradise and entrapment, choice and consequence. Her dreamlike paintings feature chandeliers, dogs, and women caught in surreal, recursive compositions that blur reality and illusion. The works evoke a state of suspended consciousness, where objects shift between clarity and dissolution, mirroring existential uncertainty. Figures from a bygone domestic world coexist with distorted household items, creating a visual language of tension and ambiguity. Klein’s paintings revel in the fleeting nature of certainty, inviting viewers to navigate a web of choices, mysteries, and the allure of the unknown.

The exhibition is on view at Nicodim Los Angeles until April 19th, 2025 1700 S Santa Fe Ave, #160, Los Angeles
Teresa Murta

Teresa Murta’s To Meet on the Riverbend reimagines abstraction with warmth and connectivity, rejecting the traditional coldness often associated with the style. Her paintings, rich with undulating color and shifting textures, blur the line between representation and pure form, guiding viewers through a dynamic yet balanced experience. Rather than treating each canvas as an isolated battle, Murta nurtures them collectively, allowing works to evolve in conversation with one another, much like members of a family. This interconnected approach extends to her studio, where paintings of various sizes and densities emerge in unison, shaping the energy of the space itself. Through this method, Murta challenges the historically male- dominated legacy of abstraction, offering a fresh, intuitive perspective where paintings exist as part of a living, breathing ecosystem.
The exhibition is on view at Nicodim Los Angeles Annex until April 19th, 2025 1700 S Santa Fe Ave, #431, Los Angeles.
