Josh Lilley is pleased to announce the representation of Rember Yahuarcani.

Rember Yahuarcani (b.1985 Peru) is an artist, curator and activist who belongs to the Aimen? (White Heron) clan of the Uitoto Nation of northern Amazonia in Peru. His practice considers the interconnectivity between man, beast, landscape and spirit within Uitoto mythology, exploring and preserving indigenous traditions, community and spirituality.  In 2024 Yahuarcani participated in Foreigners Everywhere at the 60th Venice Biennale. This year he is included in Ecuador’s XVII Cuenca Biennial.

Alive with the flora and fauna of Amazonia in Peru, Yahuarcani’s vast and dynamic scenes immerse the viewer through their vibrant colours and powerful storytelling. Dreamlike and hallucinatory, the paintings depict the myths and stories of the artist’s ancestors, where the effects of illegal mining, drug trafficking, and cultural extractivism confront the determined preservation of a community and its deeply rooted spirituality.

Yahuarcani lives and works in Lima, Peru. An inaugural solo exhibition in London with Josh Lilley will open in June 2025. It follows a solo presentation at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de La Boca – MARCO, Buenos Aires, and commissioned inclusion in Amazons: The Ancestral Future at Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona – CCCB, Barcelona. Yahuarcani was the winner of the IX National Contest of Painting of the Central Reserve Bank in Lima, Peru; the Intercontinental Biennial of Indigenous Art in Quito, Ecuador and received first prize in the Illustrated Story Contest, Carlota Carvallo de Nuñez. He writes about contemporary Indigenous art and has published the books Buinaima’s Dream, Fidoma and the Forest of Stars, Birds and their Colours and Summer and the Rain.

Yahuarcani’s work as a curator has been included in the Cultural Centre of the University of Lima and the Garcilaso de la Vega Cultural Centre. This year, he will be part of Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
