Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for a future that strengthens our democracy, protects our freedoms and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead,
said Harris for President Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
Art has always been a powerful way to express one’s vision and ideals and to mobilize people into action. The artworks in the Artists for Kamala collection do so brilliantly. We are so grateful to the art community for using their creativity, trusted voices, and powerful work to support Vice President Harris’ campaign to turn the page on hate and division, and move our country forward.
Commenting on the sale, Artsy’s CEO, Jeffrey Yin, said,
Artsy is honored to have been chosen by the Harris Victory Fund to stage this benefit sale, which is brimming with exceptional artworks generously donated by such a diverse and impressive roster of leading contemporary artists.
Highlights from the auction include:
Katherine Bernhardt, Man in the Mirror, 2024 (est. $110,000): Bernhardt’s 2024 painting Man in the Mirror will be included for sale. Commenting on her participation, the artist remarked, “I am excited to participate in Artists for Kamala and contribute a work to benefit the Harris Victory Fund. So many important issues are at stake in this election, including health care, reproductive rights, and our democracy itself.”
George Condo, Women Are Beautiful, 2024 (est. $150,000): The celebrated artist contributes this newly executed crayon and wash work on paper. Commenting on his work, Condo said, “I took the title of this piece from Garry Winogrand’s seminal series ‘Women are Beautiful.’ I am hoping that Kamala Harris will restore the faith that we put in women in our society. I believe the Harris-Walz team will look out for each and every one of us and that the light of their vision will deliver us from the darkness that we no longer wish to dwell in.”
Jenny Holzer, Selection from Truisms: There are too few…, 2023 (est. $200,000): Holzer’s Truisms, comprising over 250 single-sentence declarations, were written to resemble existing aphorisms, maxims, and clichés. Each sentence distills difficult and contentious ideas into a seemingly straightforward statement of fact. Privileging no single viewpoint, the Truisms examine the social construction of beliefs, mores, and truths. They were first shown on anonymous street posters pasted throughout downtown Manhattan, and they have since appeared on T-shirts, hats, electronic signs, stone floors, and benches.
Hank Willis Thomas, Fragile, Democracy, Handle with Care, 2024: The acclaimed conceptual artist’s limited-edition silkscreen from an edition of 50 unique variations serves to remind individuals of the ongoing and historical importance in protecting our democratic rights, and also as a call to action: a stark reminder of the fragile state of today’s democracy, urging us to handle it with extreme vigilance.
